Round Table on Sustainable Development of Almaty Held at KazGASA

On April 1, 2026, a round table titled “Almaty in the Context of Sustainable Development: Environmental, Infrastructure, and Socio-Economic Challenges”
was held at KazGASA.

The event brought together representatives of the scientific community, universities, research centers, and профильные organizations to discuss актуальные issues of Almaty’s development.

Opening remarks were delivered by Bakhtiyar Sabdenaliyev, Rector of KazGASA, and Kuantar Alikhanov, Director of the Interdisciplinary Science Center of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

During the event, participants presented reports on key aspects of sustainable urban development. Topics included environmental issues, implementation of ESG approaches in city management, architectural identity, urban safety, and transformation of urban planning regulations.

Speakers included representatives of the Institute of Genetics and Physiology, AlmaU, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, as well as experts in urban planning and ecology.

Special attention was given to:
— environmental conditions of the urban environment and pollution monitoring
— sustainable development of urban infrastructure
— the role of architecture in shaping Almaty’s identity
— improving safety and quality of the urban environment
— development of small and medium-sized cities in the post-industrial era

Following the round table, participants developed proposals for further development of Almaty’s urban environment.

Such events reinforce the role of KazGASA as a leading scientific and educational center in architecture, construction, and sustainable development, contributing to professional dialogue and the development of solutions for improving urban environments.
